Greg MyerGreen, OH – Mayor Gerard Neugebauer honored Green resident and volunteer Greg Myer as the 2018 Volunteer of the Year for his service to the community of Green at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on October 27 at Green’s Central Park Community Hall.  More than 70 volunteers attended the breakfast. 

“The annual breakfast is about honoring, thanking and serving those who graciously gave of their time to serve the Green community this past year,” said Valerie Wolford, communications manager who helped organize the event.

In addition, the City recognized Myer as the Volunteer of the Year Award.  The award is given to a community member who embodies the meaning of volunteerism and giving back to his or her community. 

Greg Myer, a long-time resident of Green, volunteers as the chair of the Green Drug Task Force’s Faith-Based Committee and has been instrumental in launching Crisis Awareness Sunday to spread the message of hope to those impacted by addiction.  Myer also serves as facilitator for the Green Community Leadership Initiative, a new program launched by the City in 2018.  Myer, who recently retired, also serves as a volunteer at Queen of Heaven Church.

“Greg’s leadership as part of the drug task force has helped us reach more than 5,000 people with a message of hope and support for those impacted by addiction,” said Mayor Gerard Neugebauer. “His leadership approach, caring heart, compassion and his willingness to serve others made him an obvious choice for this deserving award.”

As part of the breakfast, Mayor Neugebauer shared that the City had more than 700 volunteers totally more than 1500 volunteer hours in 2018 to date.   Volunteers included individuals, groups, and those who serve on City boards, commissions and task forces.
