Green, OH – The City of Green is hosting the third annual Green Gives Back, a citywide food drive, beginning November 1 through December 31, 2014 to benefit Green Good Neighbors. Families, businesses and community groups are invited to participate and drop off non-perishable food items at various locations around Green.
Drop off locations (confirmed as of October 25) include all City buildings, Green Local School Buildings, Akron General/Physicians’ Office, Akron Library (Green Branch), Back to the Arcade , Boggs Chiropractic, Fireplaces & More, Giuseppe's Pizza, Green Family YMCA, Green Local Schools Bus Garage, Greenview Senior Assisted Living, Kids Play, Kindercare (Green Branch), Romeo's Pizza, Sports Clips, Portage Lakes Career Center (Dec. 1-11), Water Xscapes, and West Side Bakery.

In addition to non-perishable food items, Green Good Neighbors is also in need of personal care and household items such as toilet paper, soap, shampoo, feminine products, diapers, dish soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, deodorant, facial tissues, and paper towels.
According to the 2011 census numbers, approximately 4.6% of families in Green are living below the poverty level. Green Good Neighbors, a not-for-profit located at Greensburg United Methodist Church, provides food, clothing and other essentials to families in Green, Clinton, Coventry and New Franklin. Approximately 60% of the families served live in Green.
“We like to say we provide a hand up to those in need, not a hand-out,” said co-chair of Green Good Neighbors Dorothy Cormany. “Many families we serve are in between jobs, or are seniors on a fixed income, or grandparents who are now raising their grandchildren and don’t have enough month to month.”
Clients of Green Good Neighbors are referred by Infoline, a social services information clearinghouse; school nurses; counselors; clergy and other social service agencies. The organization serves approximately 2,700 families a year. For those who are in need, contact Infoline at 330-376-4850 to find out if you qualify for assistance from the organization. Green Good Neighbors has been serving the community of Green for the past 24 years.
