City of Green and the Akron-Summit Library, Green Branch Team up to Present a StoryWalk along the Walking Path at the John Torok Community Center and Park

Green, OH – The City of Green Parks and Recreation Division and the Akron-Summit StoryWalkLibrary, Green Branch teamed up to present a StoryWalk® along the walking path at the John Torok Community Center and Park, 4224 Massillon Road.

Green Branch Children’s Librarian Cherri Hittie-Stanley approached the city with the idea to do a StoryWalk in the park to promote fitness and literacy in children.  Funded through the library and the City, the story, a Tree Named Steve by Alan Zweibel and illustrated by David Catrow, unfolds on panels spaced along the walking path. StoryWalk

“We encourage families to enjoy the StoryWalk together this holiday season by taking a short walk through the Veterans Park,” said Hittie-Staley.

The story begins behind the John Torok Community Center and wraps around the playground area of the Veterans Park, 1900 Steese Road.

“We think the StoryWalk will be well received, and if so, we hope to make it a moreStoryWalk permanent part of the park in the future,” said Kim Goodhart, special events and program coordinator for the City of Green Parks and Recreation Division.  “Send us your feedback about the StoryWalk, we’d love to hear from you.”
