City of Green Entering Sister City Relationship with Beius, Romania

Green, OH –On February 27, 2018 Green City Council approved a resolution to enter Map of Romaniainto a sister city relationship with Beius, Romania.  In early July, Mayor Neugebauer will travel to Beius to take part in a joint signing ceremony that will formalize this sister city relationship. The proposal for this international partnership originated during a November 2017 meeting between Mayor Neugebauer and the leadership of the Romanian Baptist Church located in the City of Green.   As this first step in defining the relationship is complete, the City of Green is looking to the community for ideas and suggestions on how to build meaningful relationships with our partners in Beius.

“We certainly can see how our schools and classrooms can link with Beius schoolchildren, but are also looking for ways to connect all facets of our community with peers in our sister city,” said Valerie Wolford, communications manager for the City of Green.  “We are encouraging Green-based businesses or organizations to reach out to us with ideas and suggestions on how to build mutual relationships.”

What is a Sister City?

The Sister Cities program began as a national concept in 1956 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower called for massive exchanges between Americans and people of other countries to create international understanding and goodwill.  A Sister City agreement is formalized when two communities from different nations join together to develop a friendly and meaningful relationship.  The cities exchange people, ideas, culture, education and technology.  Citizens from both communities learn about the other’s culture and become directly involved in developing unique solutions to common problems.  The Sister Cities program promotes world peace on an individual level and encourages citizens to better understand community by contrasting their way of life with another culture.

The City of Green is assembling a committee of volunteers set direction, determine initial projects and foster a strong and lasting partnership with Beius.
