First Annual Arbor Day Event in Green
The City of Green is hosting its first annual Arbor Day celebration on Friday, April 27 at 1 p.m. at Central Park, 1755 Town Park Blvd. The event includes the ceremonial planting of a 20-foot Norway Spruce, a tree native to both Ohio and Romania in honor of our sister city relationship with Beius, Romania. The tree replaces the Concolor Fir tree at Central Park that served as the City of Green’s Christmas tree, which sustained damage and needs to be replaced.
“We felt that using a tree native to both Green and Beius, which will be used as our community Christmas tree, was just a great way to honor our sister city relationship,” said Valerie Wax Carr, service director. “This will truly be a community tree, not only as the center of our first Arbor Day ceremony, but as the featured holiday tree for our Christmas-at-Central Park event each year.”
The community of Green is invited to attend the Arbor Day Event, which will include a brief ceremony followed by the winners of the poster contest assisting Mayor Gerard Neugebauer with “planting” the new tree. All poster entries will be on display in the Central Park Community Hall following the ceremony.
In the event of inclement weather on Friday, April 27, the Arbor Day ceremonies will be moved indoors to the Central Park Community Hall, 1755 Town Park Blvd.
