City of Green’s Annual Memorial Day Ceremony,
Parade and Activities is Monday, May 25
GREEN, OH – The City of Green invites all veterans and the community to attend the annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25 at 12 p.m. at the Green Veterans Memorial Park, 1900 Steese Road. Additional Memorial Day activities planned in Green include a pancake breakfast, Memorial Day parade, and community picnic and car show.
Activities for the day include:
Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast,sponsored by Green Fire Local 2964, begins at 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Fire Station #1, 4200 Massillon Road. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, orange juice, and coffee. Donations are accepted and will benefit local charities.
Memorial Day Parade steps off at 10 a.m. from Green High School, 1474 Boettler Road. The parade route travels east on Boettler Road to Massillon Road south (south bound lanes only) to Steese Road west to the Green Intermediate School, back to the Green High School parking lot via Bulldog Boulevard. Those interested in participating in the parade may sign-up with the Parks and Recreation office through Friday, May 22 by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Parade line up begins at 8 a.m. in the Green High School parking lot.
Memorial Day Ceremony begins at 12 p.m. at the Green Veterans Memorial Park, 1900 Steese Road. The short ceremony will include speakers Mayor Dick Norton and United States Marie Corp Sargent Justin Pratt who served a tour of duty in Iraq in 2005. Pratt, a 2000 graduate of Green High School, served from 2001 – 2007. Following his military service, Pratt joined Green Fire as a Fire medic.
In the event of inclement weather on May 25, the ceremony will be moved to the Queen of Heaven Parish Life Center, 1800 Steese Road.
Community Picnic and Car Show begins immediately following the Memorial ceremony at approximately 12:30 p.m. The annual community picnic will be served at the John Torok Community/Senior Center, 4224 Massillon Road, adjacent to the Green Veterans Memorial Park. The free picnic includes hot dog, chips, and drink. For those interested in displaying a car in the car show, enter the park from the back entrance to Queen of Heaven Church, just west of the Veterans Memorial, before 10:30 a.m. or after 12:30 p.m.
Parking for the pancake breakfast, Memorial Day Ceremony, and picnic is available at the Fire Station #1 (handicap parking only), John Torok Senior/Community Center, Queen of Heaven Church, and the Anthony Funeral Home.
