Green, OH – Mayor Gerard Neugebauer honored Green residents Glenn and Becky Witsaman as the 2017 Volunteer of the Year for their service to the community of Green at the first annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast on October 28 at Green’s Central Park Community Hall.  More than 80 volunteers attended the breakfast.

“The breakfast, which we plan on making an annual event, is about honoring, thanking and serving those who graciously gave of their time to serve the Green community this past year,” said Valerie Wolford, communications manager who helped organize the event.

In addition, the City recognized the Witsamans as the first recipients of the Volunteer of the Year Award.  The award is given to a community member who embodies the meaning of volunteerism and giving back to his or her community.

“Anytime there was a need for a volunteer this year, it seemed as if Glenn and Becky were the first in line to help,” said Mayor Gerard Neugebauer.  “They were a natural choice to be honored as our first Volunteers of the Year.”

Glenn and Becky Witsaman, long-time residents of Green, volunteered at many City-sponsored activities this year including Heritage Hill Playground rebuilding, CleanGreen2017, the Farmers Market, Green Historical Society 3rd Grade program, and more.  Both also serve on the board of the Green Historic Society.  The couple also volunteers with the Summit County Farm Bureau and Fort Laurens in Bolivar.

As part of the breakfast, Valerie Wolford shared that the City had more than 650 volunteers totally more than 2000 volunteer hours in 2017 to date.   Volunteers included individuals, groups, and those who serve on City boards, commissions and task forces.
