Green, OH –The City of Green’s Annual FreedomFest, sponsored by 98.1 KDD and Akron Children’s Hospital, is Friday, June 23 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, June 24 from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Boettler Park, 5300 Massillon Road. The annual event includes family fun, inflatables, live music, food, beer garden, and fireworks on Saturday night at 10:15 p.m. Admission is FREE; however, the City is collecting donations of school supplies to benefit Green Good Neighbors and its back to school drive.
In celebration of Green’s 25th Anniversary, the City, through generous sponsors, is giving away 25 door prizes including tickets to concerts, Akron Rubber Duck Tickets, Kennywood Tickets, Cedar Point Tickets, Spirit Airlines, a gas grill donated by Lowe’s Home Improvement, an Apple watch donated by Crystal Clinic and more. Stop by the 98.1 KDD tent to register for a chance to win one of these 25 prizes. Winners will be drawn at 7 p.m. Winners do not need to be present to win.
The festival begins Friday evening at 6 p.m. with food vendors, inflatables and live music performed by Southern Detour, a country and southern rock band, at 7 p.m. RE/MAX tethered hot air balloon rides will be available, weather permitting, for a fee (donated to the Children’s Miracle Network).
On Saturday, family-fun activities begin at 12 p.m. and will close at 9 p.m. Activities include bounce houses and other inflatable activities, zip line, climbing wall, laser maze, farm yard playland, and more. In addition, local businesses will be exhibiting their goods and services, and food will be available for purchase throughout the day.
At 5 p.m., the City is pleased to host MAPS Air Museum’s annual MAPS Legacy Awards, which honor museum volunteers who have served distinguished military careers. MAPS will also be displaying several vehicles at FreedomFest on Saturday.
On Saturday, live musical performances will begin at 8:30 p.m. with Captured (formerly known as Escape), a Journey tribute band. Prior to the performance, skydivers* will descend on the park – a crowd favorite – at approximately 8:15 p.m. Fireworks* simulablasted to music on 98.1 KDD will begin at 10:15 p.m.
Free parking for FreedomFest will be available at Boettler Park and at various parking lots along International Parkway. Handicap parking will be available at Boettler Park. *In the event of inclement weather, the city reserves the right to launch fireworks prior to the 10:15 scheduled start. If weather determines the fireworks show should be canceled, the fireworks show will be held Sunday, June 25.
