Historic East Liberty Schoolhouse Auctioned to Local Entrepreneur
Green, OH – On Janaury 24, 2019 at 12:30 p.m., the Green Community Improvement Corporation through Kiko Auctioneers auctioned off a piece of history to a local entrepreneur/investor. Green resident Richard Edwards bid $75,000 for the East Liberty Schoolhouse, located at 3492 S. Arlington Road. Total amount to be paid is $82,500, which include the 10% buyer’s premium. More than 30 people attended the auction with 18 registered bidders.
In December of 2015 the City of Green moved the historic schoolhouse approximately 500’ to the north of its original site at 811 East Turkeyfoot Lake Road to avoid demolition.
The historic East Liberty Schoolhouse, School District No. 11 in Green Township, was built in 1890 and closed in 1927. The Romanesque Revival architecture is one of two of its style remaining in the state of Ohio, the other is located in Hamilton County. It is a local City of Green landmark and is one of two properties in the City of Green on the National Register of Historic Places by United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service.
