The City of Green’s Drug Task Force is Presenting a Community Outreach Meeting on Sunday, August 19 at East Liberty Church of the Nazarene, 700 East Turkeyfoot Lake Road at 6 p.m.

Green, OH – The City of Green’s Drug Task Force is presenting a Community Outreach Meeting on Sunday, August 19 at 6 p.m. at the East Liberty Church of the Nazarene, 700 East Turkeyfoot Lake Road.  The event is free and open to the public.  

The presenters – Green Fire Medics and Sheriff Deputy who are members of the Green Outreach team – will share their experience of responding to drug overdose calls as well as how they are working to combat the drug issues in our community.  Local statistics related to drug overdoses and tips for families and individuals to prevent drug abuse in their community will be shared.  All who attend will receive a FREE drug disposal bag to properly dispose of any unused or expired prescription drugs.

“We are pleased that our local churches are opening their doors to learn more about this disease of addiction to help families in need,” said Greg Myer, volunteer chair of the faith-based drug task force committee.  “Prevention, intervention and hope all begin with understanding.”

 The presentation will include an update on the opiate epidemic in Summit County and within the City of Green.  Crime and response statistics will be shared along with details on how our safety services are managing these issues.  In addition, resources and information for families and those impacted by drug abuse will be shared. 

The City of Green, like many communities, has seen a rise in overdoses over the past several years.   In 2017, the City of Green Fire Division responded to 60 drug overdoses, down from 83 drug overdoses in 2016.  Year to date 2018, there have been 20 drug overdoses reported in Green. The City of Green Drug Task Force, formed by Mayor Gerard Neugebauer in 2016, is an all-volunteer group of community leaders and resident who are positively impact the lives of individuals and families affected by this crisis.
