2019 Compost & Rain Barrel Initiative

The Living Green Task Force is partnering with Lowe’s of Green to offer a 65 gallon compost bin at a discounted rate to any Green resident who mentions “Living Green” when placing an order.  The compost bin is a special inventory item that once paid for, will take approximately 3 to 5 days to arrive.  Paid orders will also receive a free 1.85 gallon kitchen collector while supplies last. The 65-gallon composting bins are $41.94 after discount. Lowe’s is also offering a 40 gallon rain barrel for $68.74 after discount. The compost bins and rain barrels may be ordered at Lowe’s Home Improvement, 940 Interstate Parkway in Green during regular business hours or by calling 330-245-4300. Proof of residency required.

This is the 3rd year the city’s Living Green Task Force has offered a composting/rain barrel initiative to encourage residents to reduce food scrap waste and harvest rain water. Composting food scraps helps to reduce one of the biggest contributors to landfills while enriching the soil, retaining moisture and helping to suppress plant diseases and pests.  Harvested rain water can be used to water the garden, wash windows – even your car!  The use of a rain barrel helps to slow down storm water and can prevent flooding and water pollution.
