Green, OH – More than 30 City of Green employees, city council members, board and commission members, family members and community volunteers will donate time, materials and skills on April 26 National Rebuilding Day. The City of Green has partnered with Rebuilding Together Greater Cuyahoga Valley since 2006 to provide assistance to low income homeowners in Green who are elderly, disabled and/or veterans. Each year City Council allocates $30,000 for the Rebuilding Together program. These funds are part of the city's operating budget and provide a critical service to qualified residents in the City of Green.

While Rebuilding Together projects take place throughout the year, National Rebuilding Day, always scheduled on the fourth Saturday of April, provides an opportunity for volunteers to participate in a home rehabilitation project in their community. This year, Green volunteers will team up to install new exterior doors, kitchen cabinets, drywall, ceiling fans and a new deck. Landscaping and fresh paint will also help to make the home of a 85-year-old widow who has lived in her home, since 1962, safe, healthy and warm. The home, built in 1904, is on Greensburg Road.

“Each year we are able to help several homeowners with repairs that they are unable to afford or require skilled labor they don't have access to,” said Sarah Haring, community development administrator. “Our goal is to help these residents stay in their homes as long as possible.”

Projects range from adding safety elements to a home such as grab bars, hand rails, smoke and CO2 detectors, reflective numbers for addressing to roofing, electrical upgrades, furnace replacement, new flooring and so on. Projects are completed by either contractors or volunteers depending on availability and scope of work.

Currently donations are being accepted at for City of Green projects. All funds collected will be used for homes in Green only. In addition, those interested in volunteering may complete a volunteer application online at
