City Notified of Upcoming Nexus Pipeline Construction

Nexus Upgrading ½-mile of Pipeline in Green to Ensure Compliance

Green, OH – The City of Green was notified today by Enbridge, the parent company that owns and manages the Nexus Pipeline, that they will be upgrading a ½-mile segment with a thicker pipe to meet regulatory compliance. An internal audit by their Internal Compliance Team determined the upgrade would be necessary to operate the pipeline at its maximum capacity.  According to Nexus, they have met with the three land owners where construction will take place.  The ½-mile section is located about 1000 feet west of Massillon Road.

The City of Green received the following statement from Nexus:

“We are writing to notify you that in the upcoming months, NEXUS will be working on a half-mile segment of pipe in the City of Green (Summit County, OH). We are committed to keeping the affected landowners and City apprised of the construction process and timeline.

A Quality Assurance review determined that a half mile segment of pipe would need to be upgraded in order to satisfy regulatory requirements that would allow NEXUS to operate at its permitted peak natural gas demand.

(Currently) NEXUS is operating safely and in accordance with regulatory requirements. This is a voluntary measure undertaken to upgrade the pipe in order to satisfy regulatory requirements applicable to enabling NEXUS to operate its system to meet peak natural gas demand.

We plan to mobilize a small crew on or before October 2019 to work on the half-mile segment of pipe. Work is expected to take approximately three months to complete and will impact three landowners. Notifications to affected landowners began earlier today. Anticipated impacts will include typical pipeline construction practices, including excavation activities. Construction oversight and environmental inspections will be conducted throughout the process.

For your convenience, a factsheet is attached with additional information that we recently provided to the three affected landowners.”
