1. When would construction begin for the community courts project?

The City will coordinate the construction schedule with the Green Local Schools’ new middle school construction schedule. Based on an aggressive schedule already determined, the target date for students to begin school in the new building is Fall 2025. To meet this target date, construction work must begin in the summer of 2023. 

2. Are there still opportunities for community involvement and feedback on the preliminary design?

The preliminary design is based on prior feedback from a number of sources including community surveys and community feedback from the conceptual design introduced to the community in January 2022. We welcome additional feedback on the preliminary plans as we move towards the final design. Community input throughout the design stage remains essential to developing the desired outcome for our community. To provide input and comments, please provide your feedback at www.cityofgreen.org/thecourts.  Once final design is completed and reviewed by Green Park and Recreation Board, the project will follow the City process of review by the Design Review Board, approval by Planning and Zoning Commission, and funding approval by Green City Council. All these meetings are open to the public.  

3. Will the facility be free for Green residents to use?

Fees, if any, are yet to be determined. We want this facility to be available to all Green residents.  

4. Will the facility be open to non-residents?

Court and field space will be prioritized for Green Parks and Recreation programs and leagues, Green Local Schools teams, Green community youth organizations, and other Green-based organizations (such as adult leagues, etc.).  While some participants may be from other communities, the majority of participants in these prioritized groups are residents of Green. 

5. Why was a turf field included in the facility?

Based on community feedback, a turf practice field was added to accommodate a variety of sports training and fitness activities.  For those desiring additional indoor turf fields, a private investor is planning to construct an indoor turf arena with several turf fields on Greensburg Road. 6. How will the project be funded?

We are reviewing as we do with other large construction projects on how to fund it. The City plans to issue bonds, or take on debt, to fund the construction. This may include that the debt be repaid over future years from a portion from the Parks capital fund.  

7. Why isn’t there a pool or fitness equipment included in this project?

The community of Green is currently served by organizations who offer additional features such as indoor pools and fitness equipment.  The City wants to complement these organizations’ offerings and fill the void for additional indoor court and field space within our city.
