City of Green Offers Alternative Memorial Day Events

GREEN, Ohio – The City of Green is pleased to announce some alternative Memorial Day activities for residents and families in the community.  To commemorate this year’s Memorial Day holiday, the City of Green, under the current health restrictions, is inviting community members to Chalk the Walk May 23 – 25 along our traditional parade route*. In addition, the City is releasing a Memorial Day Recognition Video and a Memorial Day coloring page online. www.cityofgreen.org/memorialday2020

Earlier this month, the City of Green, following the guidance of Summit County Public Health and the Ohio Department of Health, cancelled the traditional Memorial Day activities including the Pancake Breakfast, Parade, Ceremony, Car Show and Community Picnic.

“It was with heavy hearts that we had to cancel our Memorial Day events this year because we know the importance of this day for so many of our families,” said Mayor Gerard Neugebauer. “We know these special activities are not a replacement to our usual events, but we hope these activities give our families a way to recognize and honor the meaning of Memorial Day.”

Green Memorial Day Recognition Video
The City will be releasing a Memorial Day recognition video on Friday, May 22 on Facebook, the City’s website and the City’s YouTube Channel. The video shares highlights from previous year’s parades, ceremonies, an address from Mayor Neugebauer, and messages from veterans living in our community.

Chalk the Walk
Residents are invited to Chalk the Walk along our traditional parade route (*Green High School on Boettler Road east to Massillon Road route to Steese Road west to the Green Intermediate School) anytime Saturday, May 23 through Monday, May 25 with patriotic drawings or messages thanking service members and heroes. Families must bring their own chalk and maintain proper physical distancing. Find the map of the parade route here.

Memorial Day Coloring Page
The City has released a Memorial Day coloring page for children and families.  The coloring page may be downloaded and printed from www.cityofgreen.org/memorialday2020.  Families are invited to take a picture of their completed coloring pages and email them to greentogether@cityofgreen.org.
