City of Green Honors Joan Smith as Volunteer of the Year at Annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast
Green, OH – Mayor Gerard Neugebauer and the City of Green honored Joan Smith as the Volunteer of the Year at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast held on Saturday, November 2 at the Central Park Community Hall, 1755 Town Park Blvd.
Following breakfast, Mayor Gerard Neugebauer honored Joan Smith, owner of Gallery 143. Smith is a founding member of the art-A-palooza committee, which just celebrated its 15th festival in August. She was also an integral part of creating the City’s newest arts festival – Twisted Wilderfest, a pop-up festival of makers and nature, held in October at Southgate Park.
“Joan’s willingness to give of her talent and time has resulted in two festivals that are signature events for our community,” said Mayor Neugebauer. “Because of her leadership, art-A-palooza continues to be a year-over-year top notch event; and the inaugural year of Twisted Wilderfest proved to be a success that too will only continue to grow.”
In addition, Neugebauer also gave special recognition to the entire volunteer committee that assisted with organizing the first Twisted Wilderfest as well as the City Charter Review Commission. The City Charter Review Commission is appointed every seven years to propose changes to the City Charter. This year the five volunteers appointed to the commission attended 22 hours of meetings in addition to offering their experience and professionalism to proposing changes to the City Charter.
Each year more than 350 volunteers offer their time and service to our City totaling more than 1500 volunteer hours. Volunteers included individuals, groups, and those who serve on City boards, commissions and task forces. More than 80 volunteers attended the annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast.
