Green City Council Solicits Ward 2 City Council Member
 to Fill Vacated Seat by Council Member Bob Young

 Green, OH – On December 31, 2020, Ward 2 Council Member Bob Young resigned his Green City Council seat as the newly elected Ohio State Representative for District 36.  According to City Charter (Article IV), Green City Council must appoint a new Ward 2 council member within 45 days.  Residents of Ward 2 in Green are invited to apply for the open seat by noon on January 19, 2021.

To apply, Green residents located in Ward 2 may request petitions for the vacant Ward 2 seat by emailing the City of Green Council Clerk at Petitions must be signed by 50 qualified electors that reside in Ward 2 of the City of Green.  Once completed, the petitions along with a letter of qualifications must be filed by noon on January 19, 2021 with the Green City Council Clerk.

To qualify, applicants must be a current resident of Ward 2, a qualified elector and a resident of Green for two continuous years prior to 2021. In addition, applicants cannot be otherwise employed by the City or hold another public office other than notary public or member of the Ohio National Guard or Reserve Corps of the United States.

The appointment will complete Bob Young's current term as the Ward 2 council representative, which expires December 31, 2021. The appointed Ward 2 council member would be required to run in the November 2021 election* if he/she wishes to complete a full term to December 31, 2025.

City Council will hold a special meeting to interview all candidates. City Council is expected to appoint the Ward 2 council member at the February 9 City Council meeting followed by the newly appointed council member being sworn in.  

City Council meetings are the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. with committee meetings starting at 5 p.m. Currently due to COVID-19 restrictions, City Council and Committee meetings are combined and begin at 7 p.m.
