Massillon Road North Construction Updates

Welcome to the Massillon Road North Project blog.  For those interested in keeping tabs on the project and its monthly and weekly progress, please follow this blog.  The Massillon Road North project will begin in late spring 2020; however, utility relocation has begun and will continue throughout the winter months leading up to the start of construction.
  • This week December 2-6, 2019 -- AT&T is relocating utilities across Massillon Road just south of SR619. The contractor will be working daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the road-right-of-way and reducing traffic to one lane at times. Flaggers will be directing traffic. Please anticipate delays.
  • In addition, trees will be cleared from the right-of-way in December 2019/January 2020. Once we have confirmation of specific weeks for tree removal, we will share.
  • The City has engaged our Project Manager H.R. Gray. Project managers from H.R. Gray will be meeting with businesses along the project beginning the week of December 2 to introduce themselves and collect contact info, so our team can keep those in the immediate construction area informed throughout the project.

[ARCHIVED] May 15, 2020: Utility Relocation Continues as Construction Start Approaches

This week and into next the following utility work continues:
  • Dominion Energy has been onsite for the last couple of months relocating the existing gas line and installing new service lines throughout the corridor.  Gas lines and service lines needed to be lowered in areas where the road is being lowered to provide better site distances for drivers. 
  • First Energy is relocating existing power poles. Currently this is focused on the west side of Massillon Rd.  
  • AT&T is also working to finalize their relocations within the corridor. This work will continue as needed with minimal impact to traffic. 
  • Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. Please anticipate some delays. 
The Karvo Companies is the the general contractor for the Massillon Rd. Improvement Project.  Work is anticipated to begin, weather permitting, the week of May 26 or June 1. More details to come next week.
