MAY 12: EPA Notification regarding Industrial Excess Superfund Landfill in Uniontown

Posted to EPA Updates: Industrial Excess Superfund Landfill (Uniontown) by Valerie Wolford

On Wednesday, May 11, the EPA reached out to the City of Green to notify us that they are continuing their investigation and testing of wells in the area west and northwest of the Industrial Excess Landfill Superfund site in Uniontown, east of Cleveland Ave.

According to their press release, “Preliminary data from private well samples (in Stark County) collected in April show unacceptable levels of 1,4-dioxane at several properties. Based on the data, EPA directed the Potentially Responsible Parties (PRP) to immediately provide bottled water to the impacted residents and initiate hookups to the municipal water supply.”

In the coming days and weeks, the EPA will be reaching out to some residents in the northeast quadrant of Green immediately adjacent to Uniontown to notify them that EPA staff will be in the area sampling wells and drilling test wells. At this time there has not been any 1,4-dioxane detected in any well in the City of Green.   As they continue their investigation, they will share updates.   More information

May 15, 2020: Utility Relocation Continues as Construction Start Approaches

Posted to Massillon Road North Construction Updates by Valerie Wolford

This week and into next the following utility work continues:
  • Dominion Energy has been onsite for the last couple of months relocating the existing gas line and installing new service lines throughout the corridor.  Gas lines and service lines needed to be lowered in areas where the road is being lowered to provide better site distances for drivers.
  • First Energy is relocating existing power poles. Currently this is focused on the west side of Massillon Rd.
  • AT&T is also working to finalize their relocations within the corridor. This work will continue as needed with minimal impact to traffic.
  • Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. Please anticipate some delays.
The Karvo Companies is the the general contractor for the Massillon Rd. Improvement Project.  Work is anticipated to begin, weather permitting, the week of May 26 or June 1. More details to come next week.
