Recreation Programs For Seniors
The Parks and Recreation Department has a very active Seniors program for residents 50 and older. We have weekly card games, monthly socials, (occasional luncheons) and a variety of special events or trips throughout the year. The City of Green is pleased to partner with the Green YMCA to offer six senior fitness classes weekly through SilverSneakers at the John Torok Senior Center, 4224 Massillon Rd. Classes are geared for adults age 50+. Classes are free to attend. No registration required.
Silver Sneakers Yoga. 9 am – 9:45 am. A chair-based yoga that focuses on increasing flexibility.
Silver Sneakers Classic. 10 am - 10:45 am. A chair-based class that use hand weights and fitness ball. All equipment provided.
Beginner Vinyasa Yoga. 10 am - 10:45 am. Modifications available for all fitness levels. Classes will be held outside during nice weather. Participants should bring their own yoga mat.
Green Active Adult Toning. 8:30 am - 9:15 am. Light weights and strength training from a chair or standing.
Self-Defense Class. 9 am. - 9:45 am. A fitness class that also teaches self-defense skills.
Walking Club. 10:30 - 11:15 am.
All Silver Sneakers classes are offered free, paid for by most insurances including Medicare. Those attending, if not already enrolled in Silver Sneakers, will be enrolled by fitness staff at the first class. While geared to older adults, all ages are eligible. There is no cost regardless of eligibility of Silver Sneakers membership.
The City of Green Parks and Recreation is pleased to host Knit for the Needy every Tuesday 1:00 - 3:00 pm. The group makes afghans and other "warm items" for those in need. Located at the John Torok Community/Senior Center, this program is free and open to all who want to attend.
In January and February the event is weather permitting. Yarn will be provided, however, participants will need to bring their own knitting needles and/or crochet hooks.

Patterns for various items will also be provided.
We will be adding a Quilting Club. Details coming soon. All the materials that are produced will be donated to the Green Good Neighbors.
If you cannot attend during this time frame, the City of Green will still gladly take any donations of completed warm items and/or yarn. Donations can be dropped off at:

There will be a variety of local businesses, service providers, and other vendors who cater directly to seniors. This is a great way for seniors to discover services and opportunities available to them in the area.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a covered dish to share. Games will be provided by the City of Green, the primary game being played will be Mexican Train Dominoes. However, other games will be available to play!
