Weekly Updates

Aug. 24, 2009 -- Ceremonial Grand Opening of the Roundabout is August 25 at 10 a.m.

Currently the project is 90% complete.

As part of the overall Massillon Road Project, a small traffic circle turnaround in front of the new City of Green Central Administration Building, located at 1755 Town Park Blvd., is being rebuilt. The circle will have some of the same elements located on it, as the roundabout.  In addition, the crews continue to complete the Wise Road component of the project and work on finalizing the small items that are always a part of the end of a job. All residents within the construction limits will receive new mailboxes. The contractor will install the mailboxes this week.

Concerns and specific questions can be directed to the city engineer's office

Aug. 10, 2009 -- 80% complete

The Roundabout is completed and open to traffic! The entire Massillon Road portion (including the roundabout) of our project is completed and opened on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 4:45pm. All construction detour signs have been removed and the message boards are announcing MASSILLON ROAD IS OPEN. The roundabout was completed and opened to traffic fifteen (15) days ahead of schedule. In addition, the Massillon Road portion outside of the roundabout area was not expected to be completed until November 2009.

The City of Green would like to acknowledge several people from Wenger Excavating/Northstar Asphalt that are responsible for this remarkable accomplishment: Dave Blosser, Jeff Gaul, Dave Parcher, and Ryan Douglas. Without their guidance and daily input, the early delivery of the project would not have been possible. A special thank you to the all the Wenger/Northstar Asphalt employees on this project. Their dedication and hard work is much appreciated by the City of Green, its citizens and the Floyd Browne Group.

In the upcoming weeks, the crews will continue to complete the Wise Road component of the project and work on finalizing the small items that are always a part of the end of a job.

The roadway surface at the roundabout (RAB) is now paved with the first layer of asphalt. Landscaping has begun within the inner circle. South of the RAB, the roadway has curbs on both sides along with new base asphalt. The entire projects' outline is now very visible. Green plaza's new entrance is now in operation. The owner of the plaza is doing the re-construction work for the plazas parking lot. The new access to the plaza is now located north of the plaza signs.

The first of three (3) layers of asphalt concrete is now in place at the RAB and it looks great. The roadway is still closed for another 6 weeks, but the progress so far has been phenomenal. Green Plaza is undergoing a transformation also. A new entrance is in the works along with a much-needed reconfiguration of the front parking lot. The owner of the plaza is doing the re-construction work. Access to the plaza has not changed and we urge residents to continue to patronize businesses there.

Within the next several weeks, new storm sewers will be in place on Wise Road at Massillon Road. The contactor will focus much of their efforts on the Wise Road components of the project. Concrete Crews will continue to pour new drive approaches and sidewalk. In addition, the walking trail will be reestablished at the Torok center along with the new driveway.

Sidewalks around the roundabout are nearly completed. When the project is completed, sidewalks will connect from I-77 to Wise Road. Click here to view photos of the project.  The storm sewer is completed from the roundabout to the new water quality pond near Wise Road.  The message board previously located on Massillon Road at Greensburg Road is now located on the I-77exit ramp to Massillon Road. The change in location is to help trucks find the proper detour route. Additional signs have been placed at Town Crossing to announce that Green Plaza is open during this construction project. Access to the plaza has not changed and we are urging residents to shop there.

Within the next several weeks, we anticipate the roundabout to have the first of several layers of new asphalt. Curb and gutters will be placed southeast of the roundabout to Wise Road. The new approach to the fire station will be complete along with the Torok Center driveway. The contractor will be installing a large storm sewer at Wise Road to the new water quality pond. We anticipate delays on Wise at Massillon Road as this happens.

Please contact us if you have any special needs of any kind during this period. We can only help if we know.
  • For the next two weeks during the closure period, work within the intersection area will include completion of curbs/gutters and new pavement; connecting storm sewers to the new pond; and installation of conduit for overhead lighting. As with most road widening construction projects, utility relocation is usually necessary.   The utilities along Massillon and Steese Roads were moved in February and March 2009.
