Third Annual City of Green FreedomFest is June 27 at Boettler Park

Green, OH - Music, fireworks, family fun, food and a car show are the perfect combination for the City of Green's third annual FreedomFest held Saturday, June 27 from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Boettler Park, 5300 Massillon Road.

"FreedomFest is a combination of a Fourth of July celebration and a small town community festival," said Mike Elkins, superintendent of Parks and Recreation Division for the City of Green.

Friday night, June 26, kicks off the FreedomFest weekend with the Green Family 5K Fun Run at Boettler/Southgate Parks, sponsored by Green High School Cross Country Teams and Green Parks & Recreation; race start is at 6:15 p.m. Pre-registration entry fees are as follows: 5K run (3.1 miles) - $15/persom; 2 Mile run $10/person; 1 Mile walk/run $5/person (race day registration is from 5:30 to 6:05 p.m. and is an additional $5/person). Beginning Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., Freedomfest festivities begin with something for everyone. Activities include inflatables, carnival style midway games, a car show, music, festival food, such as funnel cakes, sausage sandwiches and French fries, and fireworks. Admission is free.

Music by Larry Alltop & Nostalgia Gold, a 50s and 60s cover band, performs from 4 to 6 p.m. Also beginning at 4 p.m. is a car show located around the pond. For those wishing to show a car, pre-registration is free or $5 day of the event. Register by calling the parks and recreation office at 330-896-6621.

Then at 8:30 p.m., Dayna Malow, an up-and-coming country singer/songwriter from the Chicagoland area, will perform followed by fireworks. If weather permits, skydivers will be sailing into the park at approximately 9 p.m., followed by fireworks at 10:15 p.m.
