The Parks and Recreation Department has a very active Seniors program for residents 50 and older. We have weekly card games, monthly socials, (ocassional luncheons) and a variety of special events or trips throughout the year. Join us for a class on computers! The Computers Don't Byte! Class is a two-session computer class for Seniors with little or no hands-on experience with computers. You will learn how to use the computer; how to create a letter in word processing; what to look for when purchasing a computer; the basics of the internet and how to search general and specific topics; and time-permitting, how to set up an email account.
Please call the Parks & Recreation office at 330-896-6621 to reserve your seat or you can register online. Seating is limited and will be taken on a first call, first serve basis. The Parks & Recreation office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Lifeline Medical Alert - Seniors, do you live alone? The standard Lifeline service provides quick access to help at the push of a button. Falls and medication errors are the two biggest threats to independent living. Lifeline provides medical alert services to offer peace of mind.
Join us for an educational session of the Lifeline Medical Service on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. The seminar will be held at the John Torok Community/Senior Center, located at 4224 Massillon Road. Mary Raitano, Lifeline Program Manager at Info Line, Inc., will be on hand to offer information and answer any questions you may have regarding the program.

Join us for a Cinco de Mayo Murder Mystery Lunch Buffet on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at the Gateway Event & Conference Center, located at 5441 Global Gateway (off International Parkway, North Canton mailing address). After lunch, we will join in the fun of solving the 1939 Radio Murder. The cost is $25/person which includes the lunch buffet and the Random Acts murder production. Join us for a trip to Sugarcreek for fun at the Ohio Swiss Festival on Friday, September 28, 2012. We will depart the Community Center at promptly 10:00 a.m. We will visit the Swiss festival, then travel to Miller's Dutch Kitchen for a late lunch/early dinner. You can order from the menu or the buffet (lunch is on your own). After lunch, we will depart for Green; approximate arrival will be 6:00 p.m. The cost is $20/person which includes transporation. Join us for a trip to Roscoe Village (Coshocton) for the Apple Butter Stirrin' Festival on Friday, October 19, 2012. We will depart the Community Center at promptly 10:00 a.m. We will visit the festival, shop among crafters and local shops, enjoy music and food (meals are on your own); admission to the festival is $3, your responsibility. Join us for a trip to The Barn, Lehman's Hardware, & the Festival of Lights on Thursday, November 8, 2012. We will depart the Community Center at promptly 10:30 a.m. to arrive at The Barn Restaurant at Noon for lunch. We will then travel to Lehman's Hardware to shop before setting off to Oglebay for more shopping and viewing of the lights. Throughout 2012, the City of Green Parks & Recreation will be hosting Knit for the Needy making afghans and other "warm items" for those in need. This program is free and open to all who want to attend. The programs will be held at the John Torok Community and Senior Center, 4224 Massillon Road, on the first Thursday of every month, from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m., starting in February. Yarn will be provided, however, participants will need to bring their own knitting needles and/or crochet hooks. Members are encouraged to make any items that they would like (gloves, mittens, scarves, hats, blankets, etc.). Patterns for various items will also be provided.
Please bring a covered dish if you would like to eat! All the materials that are produced will be donated to the Green Good Neighbors. Registration is required for this program. If you cannot attend during this time frame, the City of Green will still gladly take any donations of completed warm items and/or yarn. Donations can be dropped off at the Parks & Recreation office,1755 Town Park Boulevard.
