New Fire Chief Named in City of Green

Green, OH – Mayor Dick Norton is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeffrey T. Funai as the new Fire Chief for tChief Funaihe City of Green.

Funai, an employee of Green Fire Division since 1995 and serving as a Captain since 2011, was appointed to Fire Chief effective immediately.

“I look forward to the opportunity of working with Jeff as the new leader of our fire division and continuing the great service and work begun by our former Chief Bob Calderone,” said Mayor Dick Norton.

Funai replaces Robert Calerdone who retired in March.

Funai began his career as a part-time firefighter EMT and dispatcher in Coventry before joining Green Fire in 1995. Funai is a 1987 graduate of Green High School and holds a Bachelor of Science in Management and a Master of Business Administration from Malone College. He is currently enrolled in the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Funai also serves on a variety of committees at the local, county and state levels. For the county, he serves on the South Summit Incident Management Assistance Team Executive committee, the Summit County Communications Committee, and the EMS Committee and Training and Education Subcommittee of Summit County Domestic Preparedness Task Force. At the State level, he serves on the Specialty Care Subcommittee of the Ohio State EMS Board. He also serves as a trainer around the state in incident command.

In addition, he is a member of State of Ohio Incident Management Team, a Type III incident management team. Through this affiliation he has been deployed to serve following a number of disasters, most notably, to Suffolk County, New York in 2011 and 2012 after Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy.

Funai lives in Green with his wife Lori and their two children.

A ceremonial swearing in event is being scheduled for December 17 at 6:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 1755 Town Park Blvd.
