As the Mayor of Green, I am pleased with the progress our city has made over the past 20 years as we celebrate our 20th anniversary as an incorporated City in 2012. My goal, since taking office in 2008, has always been and remains to make our city one of the top ten places to live in the United States. I have made Green my home for the past 30 years and am honored to be a part of continuing to develop a strong community with excellent services.
Highlights of our 2011 successes include:
- Worked with local developers to developed two new developments along Massillon Road -- Heritage Crossings, a 75-acre development and Union Square, a 172-acre development.
- Welcomed Governor John Kasich in July to Green to share the story of how the City and Green Local Schools are collaborating.
- Completed the Arlington Road corridor improvements.
- Widened Caston Road from Arlington Road to Main Street including dedicated hike/bike lanes on each side.
- Completed Town Park Blvd. east into Union Square.
- Welcomed Infocision into its new home on Massillon Road.
- Launched a City of Green Facebook page. Like us at www.facebook.com/cityofgreenohio
Highlights of our 2010 successes include:
- Completed the first season of the Arlington Road corridor improvements
- Dedicated the Green Veterans Memorial Park on Veterans Day 2010.
- Pleased to be a part of the Akron General Health and Wellness Center groundbreaking in July.
- Conducted two Charting the Course on Economic Development presentations to local businesses and elected leaders.
- Rolled out the Green Business Ambassador Program to local businesses in October.
- Communicated on a regular basis with the citizens of Green through my Our Town Cable Show on Time Warner Cable Channel 16, our Our Town Newsletter, e-newsletters and my Minute with the Mayor.
- Resurfaced Massillon Road.
Highlights of our 2009 successes include:
- Completed the Roundabout and phase II of Massillon Road reconstruction ahead of schedule
- Opened the new Central Administration Building
- Added a highly attended Green's Farmers Market every Tuesday at Boettler Park
- Improved emergency alerting system for residents by contracting with WENS for our Green Alert system
- Conducted three Charting the Course on Economic Development programs to local businesses and elected leaders
- Added an enewsletter for residents and businesses with a growing list of more than 1700 subscribers
- Communicated on a regular basis with the citizens of Green through my Our Town Cable Show on Time Warner Cable Channel 16 and our quarterly Our Town Newsletter
Highlights of our 2008 successes include:
- Achieved an upgraded bond rating from AA- to AA by Standards and Poor's
- Completed on-time the reconstruction of the Steese Road and Shriver Road intersection including the addition of sidewalks and curbs and the realignment of Shriver Road with the Intermediate School entrance
- Completed on-time the road widening of Massillon Road from Graybill to Town Park Center adding a center turn lane plus two lanes in each direction
- Added Fortuna Drive (with a new signal) off of State Route 619
- Concluded the Spring Hill Sports Complexoff of Fortuna Drive
- Finished the addition of a bike and hike lane on Christman Road
- Built new park pavilions at Boettler Park and East Liberty Park
- Reconstructed the city's website to provide more information and be easier to navigate
- Created a new logo to assist in marketing Green as a progressive place to do business
- Conducted two Charting the Course on Economic Development programs to local business and elected leaders
- Communicate on a regular basis with the citizens of Green through my Our Town Cable Show on Time Warner Cable Channel 16 and our quarterly Our Town Newsletter
