Generally, mailboxes should be installed with the bottom of the box 3 1/2 to 4 feet from the ground, and in such a way that the carrier has access to the box without leaving his/her vehicle. Mailbox posts must be either 4"x4" wood breakaway posts or 2-1/2" diameter metal breakaway posts. Residents should contact their postmaster with questions regarding box design and size regulations.
The address must be shown on the side of the box, visible to the approaching carrier or on the door where boxes are grouped. If the box is located on a street other than the one on which the customer resides, the customer's street name and house number must be inscribed on the box. Placing the customer's name on the box is optional.
