FREE Memorial Pavers to All Veterans at Green Veterans Memorial Park;
Mayor Neugebauer Asking Community to Sponsor a Veteran
GREEN, OH – Mayor Gerard Neugebauer wants all veterans who live in Green to have a paver at the Green Veterans Memorial Park and to ensure that they all do, he is offering veterans a free 4 X 8 paver.
The pavers, which make up the Stories of Service Grove Walkway at the Green Veterans Memorial Park, 1900 Steese Road, are available for purchase to honor or memorialize a loved one who served our country. However, Mayor Neugebauer wants to make sure that all veterans who served our country and are residents of Green are recognized along the walkway for their service.
“After talking to a local veteran, it became clear that all our veterans deserve to be recognized at this park,” said Gerard Neugebauer. “They served for us, so it is just the right thing to do to honor them.”
Veterans who would like a free paver are invited to complete a paver form available in our City of Green parks office, 1755 Town Park Blvd., or download it at www.cityofgreen.org/veterans-park.
Pavers are still available for sale for family members and others who wish to purchase them for a loved one. Currently 4 x8 pavers and 8X8 pavers are available for purchase. Although only 4X8 pavers are offered free of charge to veterans. The City is also accepting general donations to assist in covering the cost of the free pavers to veterans who register. Those interested in making sponsoring a veteran may download a form at http://www.cityofgreen.org/veterans-park.
“As sponsors come forward, we plan on linking them with a veteran in the hopes that relationships will be built and our community can gain a better understanding of the sacrifices that our veterans made,” said Neugebauer.
To purchase a paver or sponsor a veteran, visit www.cityofgreen.org/veterans-park to download a form. Bricks are sold all year; however, to ensure installation by this Veterans Day, orders must be placed by Wednesday, Sept. 28. Orders after this date will be installed prior to Memorial Day 2017.
The Green Veterans Memorial Park, 1900 Steese Road, was dedicated on Veterans Day 2010. The final phase of the park including the second stories of service grove along the west side of the park and a first responders’ memorial at the apex of the ribbon walk, is planned to be completed in 2017. Fundraising for the final phase is set to begin this fall.
