What is Green Alert?

Green Alert is the emergency notification voice and text messaging system for the City of Green. It is used by public safety officials as a way to instantly send voice messages to landline phone numbers or cell phones or text messages to cell phones or email when an urgent situation needs to be communicated. The service allows you to sign up to get emergency alerts on your cell phone, work phone, text message, email and home phone. You can also choose the locations you want to be contacted about (i.e. your home address, your parents' home, your child's school, your workplace, etc.) as long as they are within the City of Green.

How do I register?

City of Green residents and those who work in the City of Green may register online here. Enter your phone number (landline, mobile/cellular, VOIP), pager number, email address and/or text/SMS number. Your registration information is private and will not be shared.

Does Green Alert cost anything to use?

There is no cost for an individual who has registered for the alerts; however, your cell phone carrier might charge you to receive text messages, so please check your plan.

Do I need to register if I am already registered to receive the city e-newsletter?

Yes. Green Alert is a separate system from the e-newsletter and requires residents to sign-up as a subscriber. You may have several people from each household register.

I registered for Green Alert before, do I need to re-register?

Yes. To ensure accuracy, we are asking all who have signed up for Green Alert prior to August 30, 2012 to re-enroll. We are sorry for any incovenience this may cause, but do to our reliability concerns with the previous service provider we want to ensure we have accurate information.

What type of alerts will I receive?

All landline phone numbers will receive voice messages about emergencies only. Those who register cellphone or email addresses may also opt to receive other safety alert information such as severe weather warnings.

Will all cellular phone carriers deliver Green Alert! messages?

Yes, our City service provider works with all major cellular phone providers. Text messages will be sent to your carrier for delivery to your phone. While it is extremely unlikely that you would not receive an alert message, signal strength and other issues with your carrier could impact delivery to your phone.

Will I receive ads or SPAM on my phone?

No.

Can I register all of my family members to receive alerts?

Yes. However, each member who wishes to receive messages -- voice or text -- on their cellphone should register individually.

I don't use text messages. Can I receive Green Alert by email?

Yes, when you sign up online, fill in your email address in the proper field. You will be sent your emergency notification through the email address that you registered.

Exactly what phones or devices will get the text alerts?

  • cellular phones with text capabilities
  • any carrier alphanumeric pagers
  • any carrier Blackberry-IPhone-PDA's
  • Email accounts with any service provider
    (Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail, Google, etc...)

What happens if I change my mobile carrier and receive service through another company?

Nothing will change. You will still receive Green Alert as long as you have the same phone number.

What happens if I change my phone number?

You will need to re-register so that you can resume receiving GreenAlert! notifications.

How can I stop receiving the alerts?

Go to the Green Alert sign-up page and chose the "manage your profile" option. There is a menu option to opt out from receiving any further notifications.

I do not have internet access, how can I sign up to get the voice messages on my cellphone?

Simply call 330-896-6610, the non-emergency phone number for Green dispatch, any time and ask to sign up for Green Alert we will do it for you.
