How many acres of parkland does the city own?

524 acres within 9 parks

How do I reserve a picnic pavilion?

Contact the Parks and Recreation office at 330-896-6621 or email parks and recreation.  For more information regarding rental information, click here.

Do I need a fishing license to fish in public parks?

Yes, a fishing license is required if you are fishing at Southgate Park only.   A fishing permit is not required at Boettler Park or East Liberty Park.  To obtain a fishing license, visit http://ohiodnr.com/wildlife/dow/regulations/vendor.aspx

How can I check the status of baseball field conditions?

In the event of inclement weather baseball, softball, soccer, and lacrosse field status updates can be found on the city's home page.  The alert will be featured on the homepage in the center column. 

Where can I walk my dog?

Dogs are permitted in Southgate Park and must remain on leash.   Dogs may also be walked at Nimisila Reservior and Knapp Recreation area.  Contact the local office of the Ohio Division of Natural Resources at 330-644-2220.

How do I reserve a park for a special event?

An application must be submitted to the superintendent of parks and recreation.  Contact the parks and recreation office at 330-896-6621 for a special event application.

How do I get to Southgate Park?

The entrance for Southgate Park is located within Boettler Park, 5300 Massillon Road.   Follow signs to Southgate Park.

What time do our parks open and close?

All our parks open at sunrise and close 30 minutes after the sun sets with the exception of special events or scheduled activities.

Who should I report suspicious behavior to?

The safety of our visitors is our number one priority.  Any suspicious behavior should be reported immediately to the Summit County Sheriff Department by calling 9-1-1.

Where do I purchase a paver for the Veterans Memorial Park?

Pavers may be purchased in the Parks and Recreation Office, Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.   Click here for an order form.
