Road Construction Updates
Steese Road will be closed June 16 to Green, OH –The intersection of Steese and Shriver Roads will be closed June 16 until August 25 to allow for reconstruction. The project will be constructed by the awarded contractor, Wenger Excavating of Dalton, Ohio. During construction, the entrance to Green Intermediate School will be realigned with Shriver to allow for better traffic flow and increased safety. Also, the road will be lowered to improve the sight distance, and a third left turn lane, sidewalks and curbs will be added. This segment of the project is approximately 1,000 feet. Access to Queen of Heaven Church will be maintained from Massillon Road/ Route 241. Once funding is approved, the city plans to extend the road widening and addition of sidewalks and curbs from Massillon Road to Greenwood Drive. “This project does require the road to be closed to make the necessary reconstruction changes,” said Paul Pickett, city engineer. “We will do our best to reduce the inconvenience to the residents of Steese and nearby neighborhoods as much as possible.” The posted detour for this project from Massillon Road/Rt. 241 is Boettler to Arlington Road. “Rest-assured that access for city safety personnel will be maintained at all times,” said Mayor Dick Norton, referring to Fire Station One located at the corner of Steese and Massillon Roads. “Fire department personnel will assess the project on a daily basis to ensure they have a proper access route on Steese in the event of a life-threatening emergency.” |
