City of Green Teams with Portage Lakes Advisory Council to Clean up the Portage Lakes at its first Clean Green Day on April 22

Green, OH – On Earth Day April 22, 2017, the City of Green Living Green Task Force is looking for volunteers to help clean up the Portage Lakes as part of the overall effort of the Portage Lakes Advisory Council’s annual Litter Pick-up Day.   The 2017 Clean Green event will focus on areas of the Portage Lakes shoreline located within the City on April 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

About 50 volunteers are needed to help pick up litter at the Knapp Recreation area, located on Cottage Grove, and along the shoreline of Miller and Cottage Grove Lake.  Some of the litter pick-up will be done by boat.  Boat transportation is provided by the PLAC.

“Clean water is a key element to a healthy environment,” said Kyle Lukes, chair of the Living Green Task Force. “While we can’t remove the fine pollution particles, we can pick up litter and trash that has accumulated over the winter months.”

Registration is required by emailing livinggreen@cityofgreen.org or by calling Sarah Haring, Community Development Administrator at 330-896-6614.  Adults and older children accompanied by their parents are welcome to participate.  Litter pick-up tools provided.  Volunteers are asked to bring their own work gloves.

In addition to this organized volunteer effort, the City is asking residents to mark April 22 as a day to Clean Green by picking up litter in and around their neighborhoods.  Residents are asked to post pictures of their efforts by tagging #CleanGreen17 on social media.

The Living Green Task Force is an all volunteer committee dedicated to advocating good stewardship for our people, our planet and for prosperity both today and into the future.  Formed in 2012, the task force has raised awareness for the many sustainable programs the City of Green offers.   To learn more, visit www.cityofgreen.org/living-green.
