Aggregation Programs (Gas and Electric)
Animal Control Laws dealing with all types of animals are addressed in Green Codified Ordinance §618. Many topics are covered in this section, including a requirement that owners of dogs and other animals keep them confined or restrained on the owner's property, as well as the City of Greens "scooper law." Nuisance conditions such as barking, offensive odors, and property damage are also covered under this Ordinance. All dogs must be licensed. A License can be obtained through the:
Animal Control Laws are enforced by the Summit County Sheriff's Department, which can be contacted by calling (330) 643-2181. The City also contracts with Summit County Animal Control for animal control issues, and they can be reached by calling (330) 643-2845. Building and Construction Permits Permits are required through the Zoning Division (330) 896-6605 and Summit County Department of Building Standards (330)630-7280 prior to initiation of a construction project. Commercial developers should contact the Green Planning Department at (330) 896-6614. Cemetery Information Cemetery information should be directed to Erin Bickett in the Service Department at 896-6924. Curfew Children under 18 years old shall not be on the streets, sidewalks, or other public places between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. of the following day, unless he or she is accompanied by a parent, guardian or an adult person having the legal care or custody of such child, or unless he or she is going directly to or from a lawful activity, entertainment, or employment with the knowledge and consent of the parent, guardian or person having legal care or custody. Codified Ordinance 636.21 Demolition A permit is required to demolish any structure larger than 500 sq. ft. Contact the Zoning Division for application and bonding information; (330) 896-6605 or Email Zoning. Door to Door Solicitation Door to door soliciting is prohibited in Green. Only charities and school organizations are permitted to canvass neighborhoods, and only after obtaining a permit from the Zoning Division. Residents concerned that an illegal vendor may be operating are advised to contact the Summit County Sheriffs Office at (330) 643-2181. City Employment Current employment opportunities are advertised in local newspapers and are posted on the City of Green Human Resources Department and Civil Service Web pages. Flu Shots The Summit County Health Department administers a flu vaccination program each fall. Flu and pneumonia clinics are scheduled throughout Summit County. Clinic times are subject to change, as are schedules, especially at times when flu vaccinations are in short supply. Garage Sales A permit is not needed for garage or yard sales, but a sale cannot run longer than three consecutive days or be held more frequently than twice within a twelve month period. Garage sale signs are not permitted within the road right-of-way (A good rule of thumb to use is to keep the signs on the property side of the ditch line, or utility pole line.) Signs may be displayed for two days in advance of a sale and must be removed on the last day of the sale. Hazardous Waste Recycling The Summit/Akron Solid Waste Management Authority has established a permanent recycling center for household hazardous waste. The center is located behind Carter Jones Lumber at 1201 Graham Road, just east of the I-77 & Graham Rd Exit. Hours of operation are Tuesdays 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. and Wednesdays 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Please contact the Solid Waste District at (330) 374-0383 for additional information, or contact Erin in the Service Department for other options. House Numbering Street numbers must be posted on all residential and commercial buildings. Regulations require that the street address be posted near the entrance door or walkway of the building, facing the street. The numbers should be at least three inches in height, and have a contrasting background color so that they are clearly visible from the street. If a building is located more than 75 feet from the street, regulations require the numbers to be displayed near the driveway entrance. Script numbers are not prohibited, but a set of numerals must also be displayed. Codified Ordinance 1472. Posting of clear, legible "house numbers" will certainly help our emergency services when responding to a request for assistance. Hunting Hunting is permitted in the City of Green subject to restrictions imposed by Ordinance 672.11 as amended effective June 24, 2003. Income Tax Our income tax rate is 2%. The City of Green
receives income from auto license fees and a percentage of gasoline tax
paid by our residents to the State of Ohio. Since these revenues are based
on vehicle registrations, it is important that residents properly indicate
to the Deputy Registrar that they live in the City of Green, even though
your mailing address may indicate Akron, Uniontown, North Canton, or Clinton.
Hunting and fishing licenses are available at the Walmart on South Arlington Road. Mailbox Regulations Generally, mailboxes should be installed with the bottom of the box 3 1/2 to 4 feet from the ground, and in such a way that the carrier has access to the box without leaving his vehicle. Mailbox posts must be either 4"x4" wood breakaway posts or 2-1/2" diameter metal breakaway posts. Residents should contact their postmaster with questions regarding box design and size regulations. The address must be shown on the side of the box, visible to the approaching carrier or on the door where boxes are grouped. If the box is located on a street other than the one on which the customer resides, the customer's street name and house number must be inscribed on the box. Placing the customer's name on the box is optional. Mosquito Control The Summit County Health Department administers a mosquito spraying program. The Health Dept. last sprayed the City of Green on Monday, August 25. Spraying began at 8:30 p.m. In the event of rain, an updated schedule can be obtained by calling (330) 926-5667. Noise Ordinance The City of Green regulates noise created by advertising, sound amplifying equipment, machinery, noise-producing instruments and vehicles. Please refer to restrictions imposed by Ordinance §648.12 as amended effective Nov. 25, 2004. Open Burning Open burning is prohibited. Cooking fires are permitted, but the size of the fire must be proportionate to the food being cooked. Parking Ban A parking ban will be in effect for all City streets, whenever the U.S. Weather Bureau reports snowfall exceeding two inches. This Ordinance is enforced by the Summit County Sheriff's Office. Violators are subject to a fine of up to $100, and will be responsible for all towing and storage charges. Vehicle owners are responsible for determining in advance whether conditions will require removal of the vehicle. Codified Ordinance 452.115 Post Offices/Zip Codes The Green post office provides Green with all postal services available at larger offices. Green residents are served by six different postal codes. Efforts to label all mail "Green, Ohio" after January 1, 2005, regardless of zip code, have been unsuccessful at this time, so residents must continue to use their current address for each zip code area, e.g. Uniontown, Ohio 44685.
Recycling THE RECYCLE CENTER IS OPEN! The Recycle Center is located at the Administration Offices at 5383 Massillon Road. Please use the rear entrance off International Parkway to dispose of brush, branches, leaves, etc. Aluminum can recycling containers are also located in the parking lot behind the Green Administration Building, 1900 Steese Road. Green Fire administers the program, and proceeds from the sale of cans are donated to the burn unit at Akron Childrens Hospital. Green Middle School also has paper bins. Proceeds to benefit PTA. Please note: this service is open to residents of Green only. You must present your drivers license showing your address in Green to use the recycle center. Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Information Sanitary Sewer Sanitary sewer is not available in all areas of the city. Where sewer is available, Summit County owns and operates the system, which is administered by the Summit County Department of Environmental Services (DOES). DOES offices are located at: 2525 State Road Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio Phone: (330) 926-2400 Sanitation Services The City of Green initiated a trash aggregation program in the fall of 2003. Republic Waste Services is the only licensed hauler for residential service in the City of Green. Republic also offers a free recycle container to all residents, and encourages recycling. New residents wishing to sign up for trash pick up, or any questions can be directed to Republic Waste at 1-800-247-3644. Temporary Signs A permit is required for temporary signs. These signs are permitted in business and industrial districts up to three times per calendar year, for 30 days each time. Trick or Treat City Council has established that the last Sunday in October each year as a city-wide Trick or Treat night for Halloween. Beggars may roam the City between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in search of treats! Residents interested in participating are asked to turn on their porch light. Water, Drinking City water is not available in all areas of the City. Aqua Ohio, Inc., owns and operates the water system serving Green residents.
