Northcoast Gran Prix of Cyclocross hosting race event at East Liberty Park in Green on Saturday, Sept. 29
Green, OH – The City of Green is pleased to welcome cyclocross racers from around the area and country to East Liberty Park, 471 Turkeyfoot Lake Road, on Saturday, Sept. 29 for the Northcoast Gran Prix of Cyclocross. The event is hosted by Stark Velo Cycling Team.
Cyclocross is a form of cycling that features many short laps on a course with a variety of terrains such as pavement, grass, hills, and obstacles. Cyclocross’ history dates back to the early 1900s in Europe; however, the sport only began to gain popularity in the United States since the 1970s.
“We are excited to host the race here in Green,” said Mike Elkins superintendent of Parks and Recreation. “Not only are we able to feature an alternative sport, but we get the opportunity to share our wonderful diverse park system and community with others.”
More than 200 racers are expected to compete in a variety of categories from juniors through senior age groups. Races begin at 10 a.m. For those interested in learning more about the race or to register to race, visit www.starkvelo.com.
Due to the race, the park will be closed for other activities on Saturday, Sept. 29 only. Additional tennis courts and basketball courts are available at Boettler Park, 5300 Massillon Road.
