City of Green’s Annual Memorial Day Ceremony, Parade and Activities is Monday, May 27

GREEN, OH – Memorial Day this year in Green will be filled with activities for the whole family from morning to night. This year Monday, May 27 is the final day of the three-day Taste of Green event, which begins at 11:30 a.m. Prior to the opening of Taste of Green for the day, the City is hosting its annual Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast, Parade, Ceremony and Community Picnic.

Activities for the day include:

Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast, hosted by Green’s Firemedics, begins at 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Fire Station #1, 4200 Massillon Road. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, orange juice, and coffee. Donations are accepted and will benefit a local charity.

Memorial Day Parade steps off at 9 a.m. (one hour earlier than previous years) from Green High School, 1474 Boettler Road. This year the parade route has been expanded to begin and end at the High School. The 2013 route is Boettler Road east to Massillon Road south (right hand lanes only) to Steese Road west to Bulldog Boulevard to Green High School. Due to the extended route, parking will not be available at the Middle or Intermediate School or Stadium parking lot until 11 a.m. Those interested in participating in the parade may sign-up with the Parks and Recreation office through Friday, May 24 by calling 330-896-6621.

Memorial Day Ceremony begins at 10:45 p.m. at the Green Veterans Memorial Park, 4224 Massillon Road. The short ceremony will include speakers Mayor Dick Norton and Chuck Collins, midday music host on 1590 WAKR and operations director for the Rubber City Radio Group. In addition, Mayor Norton will honor long-time Green resident and Korean War Veteran Leonard Falcone.

Community Picnic begins at 11:30 p.m. Following the Memorial Day Ceremony, the annual community picnic will be served at the John Torok Community/Senior Center, 4224 Massillon Road, adjacent to the Green Veterans Memorial Park. The free picnic includes hot dog, chips, and drink.

Parking for the pancake breakfast, Memorial Day Ceremony, and picnic is available at the Fire Station #1 (handicap parking only), John Torok Senior/Community Center, Queen of Heaven Church, and the Anthony Funeral Home.
