City of Green Announces Winners of the Second Annual Property Beautification Competition

The City of Green and contest sponsor, Hoffman's Garden Center, is pleased to announce the winners of the second annual property beautification competition.   Selected by the Design Review Board at their October 4 meeting, four winners were selected in the two residential categories - landscaping and structural improvement.  The first place winner in the landscaping category is Brian and Janet Hill, 3032 Bickleigh Avenue, for porch, patio and side yard landscaping improvements. The second place landscaping winner is Shawn and Kathleen Geckler, 1265 Cherry Lane for front, side, backyard and new deck landscaping.

In the structural improvements category, the first place winner is Bob and Tammy Daly, 1779 King Drive for a new roof and front porch brick work.  The second place winner is Michael and Jill Wynn, 4437 Castlegate Boulevard for a new concrete patio, basketball court and eco-friendly gas fire pit. 

In both categories the first and second place winners received $500 and $250 gift cards respectively from Hoffman's Garden Center. There were no applicants for the business category.

"We would like to extend a very sincere ‘thank you' to all this year's applicants," said Wayne Wiethe, director of planning.  "The effort and creativity expressed by these property owners was extremely gratifying."

Plans for the 2012 competition include the addition of a "green" or sustainable improvements category.   The competition will be announced in the spring of 2012.
