SAILING THE HIGH SEAS MUSICAL ADVENTURE

We are delighted to share with you a unique, informative and highly entertaining program of musical sunshine with the exciting rhythms and energy of the tropics. It is unlike anything else being offered in your setting.  Our program, also, lends itself to creative lead-up crafts projects at home from discarded oatmeal containers for a drum or rice in a can for a shaker. Our program will be perfect for a island theme event at the Freda Hunter-Bates pavilion.

Typically, we take the group on a cruise ship sail (you can the ship the SS Green, too) visiting many Ports of Call and encouraging mental and physical involvement. This would be a great time to wear flowers...shirts and dresses, also, straw hats and sunglasses just like a tropical vacation!

Picture everyone waving goodbye to the people on shore as we pull away from the dock.

The Calypso Gypsies Steel Drum Trio's special program introduces the audience to the steel drum and various Latin percussion through the vehicle of a travel presentation. They will get to see up close these unique sounding instruments and learn about their origins. The steel drum originated from cast-off oil drums washing up on the beaches of Trinidad/Tobago.

TRAVEL ITINERARY:

In the Bahamas, the sweet and sunny sound of Calypso music will have everyone clapping in time. In Jamaica, we introduce the Rumba Box and show how it is played and tell about how it's humble beginning. With hand percussion (lead-up craft), the band invites everyone to join in the making of island music. Visiting an island rain forest, we will all make bird and animal sounds to the background of the drums. Pulling into the port of Rio de Janeiro, we see Cristo Redeemer high up on Corcavado Mountain welcoming us to Brazil and the sounds of Samba. Back up in the Caribbean, we stop at the Dominican Republic and have some fun with the fast and popular Merengue rhythm. Now it's time to head through the Panama Canal and west to our island state!  In Hawaii, we teach a dozen easy hand hula moves and have some volunteers wear grass skirts. There is more, too. Sometimes, this becomes an extended cruise that sails to the Ivory Coast of Africa, to the Emerald Isle of Ireland or to the Greek Isles!

We can engage your group with a Conga Line, Hand Jive, Limbo, Hand Percussion, Grass Skirts and Hula Dancing and other group activities. It's always memorable with lots of "Kodak Moments". Guaranteed! Parents be sure to bring your cameras/videos.
