Tuesday, November 1, 2011

Paving operations have begun on Arlington Rd. between I-77 and SR-619 in the City of Green. We'll be working behind the barrels along the east side of Arlington Rd. Thursday and Friday, November 3 and 4, weather permitting. We'll be out of the traffic for the most part except through intersections.  Expect some minor delays Thursday and Friday. Businesses can also expect some minor interruptions as the paving operations pass their drives. Starting Saturday, November 5(and possibly Sunday, Nov. 6), we plan to start the surface course of asphalt, which will involve paving the entire width of Arlington Rd. Weather permitting, this may take up to a week. We will be starting the surface course on the northbound side of Arlington Rd. and work towards the center of the roadway. The southbound side will follow the completion of the northbound side.

By now motorists have noticed that traffic has moved from the west side of the road to the east.  With this move, there are now four lanes of traffic (two in each direction) open with minimal delays if any.   In the next month, the contractor will be removing asphalt and topsoil in the final lane on the east side of Arlington from East Liberty Drive to the I-77 entrance ramp.    New curbs, asphalt and sidewalks will be installed.   In addition, at the intersection of Arlington Ridge East, new storm water sewers will be installed as well as new signals.  The contractor will be completing this intersection work at night to avoid disruption of daytime traffic.   Traffic will be maintained throughout these final stages of construction.

Moore road is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, July 7.   Currently multiple crews are working on various aspects of the project simultaneously.  Crews are placing new curbs and gutters along Arlington and Moore Roads.  Crews are also installing new traffic signals.   And restoration crews are working on lawn clean-up from the 2010 construction season.    Once the west side of Arlington is completed, the contractor will move to the east side beginning at the south end (near Lowe's) and working north.   This is expected to begin in late July.

Monday, June 13, 2011
Crews are making remarkable progress with the stretch of better weather.  New curbs, drive approaches; sidewalks and asphalt now extend from Liberty Green Drive up to Toth Buick. New traffic mast arms are completed at Interstate Drive and the signals should be installed very soon.

The work is focusing on completion of Moore road and on the north drive entrance to target plaza. Crews are preparing the areas for curbs and asphalt. Moore Road reconstruction is on schedule.

We anticipate the contractor completing the west side of the project on or about mid-July. Once completed, the traffic will be shifted to the newly completed west side. We expect once the shift happens, four lanes will be available to our traveling public during the remaining construction.

Final Restoration has begun on the 2010 season work. Seeding, fertilizer and mulching will take place over all lawn areas not completed last season. Maintenance of the lawn areas is the responsibility of the business owner.

With better weather, construction crews have been able to get out and make progress on Arlington Road. The first layer of asphalt was placed on Arlington Road from Mariachi Locos to Fred Martin Nissan on the West side of the road. Jarvis Road has been reopened. The new road configuration provides motorists access from Arlington Ridge East inside Arlington Ridge Market Place, as opposed to directly from Arlington Road. The sweeping "S" curve allows traffic to outlet at the traffic light at Arlington Ridge Marketplace (Target plaza). An AT&T crew installing new infrastructure hit and damaged their own equipment last week. Numerous businesses experienced loss of phone and other telecommunication services. This issue was not related to the Arlington Road project.

Friday, May 27, 2011

Beginning Monday, June 6, Moore Road will be closed at the Arlington Road intersection.  Motorists will be detoured.  A detour map is available by clicking here.  The closure date is weather dependent.

Monday, May 15, 2011
Rain has placed the project behind by two week. The contractor is anticipating better weather and will add additional crews to bring the project back on track. Curbs were poured late last week on the west side of Arlington from Mariachi Locos to Toth Buick/GMC. The contractor is working on completing drive approaches this week behind the new curbs. Jarvis road is closed for three weeks to complete the new tie-in to Arlington Ridge East. Traffic signal foundations are being installed in anticipation of the new intersections.

Monday, May 2, 2011
Congestion along Arlington has been relieved by re-timing the lights and creating a significant decrease in noticeable backups.  The contractor has also switched a majority of its work to night time. All roadway utility crossings on S. Arlington Road will be completed from 9:00 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Storm Sewer and sanitary sewer laterals will be run across Arlington Road for most of the week.  During the day, grading crews will continue to remove topsoil and grade for new curbs - weather dependent.

Monday, April 25, 2011
The construction along Arlington Road is in full swing, and we would like to give you an update on what to expect over the next in the coming weeks.

Alrington Road
Arlington Road between Interstate Parkway and Moore Rd will be closed during between the hours of 9 PM to 6 AM starting Sunday night, May 1, 2011 through Thursday night May 5, 2011. Traffic will be detoured on to SR 619, Cottage Grove and Moore Rd. Local traffic will be allowed up to interstate from the SR-619 end. Click here to view a detour map.

Jarvis Road
Jarvis Road just west of Arlington Rd. will be closed starting Monday, May 9 at 9:00 AM. Jarvis Rd. will remain closed for approximately three (3) weeks while it is tied into the public road within the Target Plaza. Traffic will be detoured on to Cottage Grove, Moore and Arlington roads. Click here for a detour map.

These road closures will depend on weather conditions.

Also, as I'm sure many of you know, traffic along Arlington has been a bit slower than anticipated. We are exploring several options to get traffic to move quicker through the corridor and will update you on our plan.

Please be cautious and alert when driving through the construction zone.

Monday, April 4, 2011

Beginning this week, weather permitting, the contractor will be setting up barrels along the project. During this phase, Arlington Road will be reduced to one lane north bound, one lane southbound and center opposing left turn lane. Please click here for a map. Traffic will be shifted onto the east side of the project so the new west lane can be constructed. At Arlington Ridge (Target Plaza and Bob Evans/Taco Bell), there will be a dedicated left only turn lane.

Our contractor has committed to working on the roadway itself at night as much as possible to ease congestion and confusion during the daytime hours. Work has begun

We ask for your patience during the traffic reconfiguration and throughout the project. We understand navigating Arlington Road will be a challenge this construction season.

The intersection project is soon to be winding down for the season. There are several points of interest you should know about the functionality of the intersection and the new pavement:

  • The new traffic signals will be installed mid-December and should be functioning shortly after that.
  • The new signals will use advanced technology camera detectors to determine the signal length at this time until the entire project is completed.
  • When the entire project is completed sometime late 2011, traffic signals along the Arlington Road Corridor will have high speed communications between them to better help with traffic flow.
  • The asphalt surface presently on the roadway is not the final layer. The final layer will be applied in 2011. A very thin lift of high performance polymer asphalt will be used as the final pavement surface. The polymer asphalt has greater wetness adhesion for tires and provides a much durable /harder surface for longevity.
  • The City of Green along with ODOT has made several changes to the way the pre-final asphalt was placed to allow for better drainage and no bumps when entering/exiting driveways. Prior to placing the final pavement surface, a small grinder will be used to remove a small amount of asphalt at the gutter's edge. This along with placing the final asphalt will be done rather quickly next year.
  • Roadway striping/painting - the striping completed this week is in the final configuration. The paint used is temporary in nature and permanent paint will be used once the final pavement surface is completed.
  • The contractor will continue to work on placing cement sidewalks, asphalt driveways and restoration. Based on the contractor's schedule, this work should be completed by the first of December.
  • The contractor will be soon installing mail boxes.
  • Please note the contractor is adjusting manholes and water boxes to grade. Once to grade asphalt will be placed around them. Please also note a final lift of asphalt will be placed next year over the entire project. The paint used is only temporary until we complete the final lift.

 Friday, June 18, 2010
Beginning Sunday, June 20, SR 619 will be closed just west of Arlington Road, Sunday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The detour route is Cottage Grove Road to Caston Road to Arlington Road. Access to all local residents and business will be maintained throughout construction.  Click herefor a map of the detrour.

Tuesday, June 1, 2010
Beginning June 3, the contractor will shift Arlington Road traffic south of SR 619 to new temporary pavement on the east side of the road.  This will allow crews to work on the west side of the road without disrupting the flow of traffic.  Please anticipate minor delays as drivers adjust to this new traffic pattern.

Also going on in the construction zone, crews continue to install Sanitary sewer on SR 619, east of Arlington Road and on Arlington Road, south of SR 619.

In the coming weeks the contractor will focus on removing items that remain in the right-of-way as well as installing storm sewer on SR 619, west of Arlington.  Lastly, the contractor will focus attention on installing curbs on the west side of Arlington Road, but will also make sure driveway access is maintained.

Monday, May 24, 2010
The City of Green has been keeping tabs on how long it takes to travel through the construction zone, both north and south bound on Arlington Road. The graph below shows how long it will take to get through the construction zone.

 Arlington Road Travel Log

Monday, May 10, 2010
Arlington Road will be closed between SR 619 and Interstate Parkway on Monday and Tuesday (May 10 and 11) evening as posted on May 5.  On Wednesday, May 12 through, Friday, May 14, the contractor will again close Arlington Road, south of SR 619 between SR 619 and September Drive for sewer work.  The detour will be Boettler Road to Massillon Road to SR 619.  Access to local traffic will be maintained.  This construction schedule is weather dependent and an update will be posted on Wednesday, May 12.  The closures will be from 9 PM to 6 AM only.

Wednesday, May 5, 2010
Nightly closures on Arlington Road between Interstate Parkway and SR 619 (E Turkeyfoot Lake Road) will begin Monday, May 10 through Friday, May 14 from 9 PM to 6 AM. The road will reopened to traffic at 6 AM daily. The closure will allow the contractor to install sanitary sewer lines across the roadway. The contractor is closing the road to ensure the safety of its workers due to the large amount of traffic in the construction area. At all times local traffic will have access to businesses located in the construction zone if coming from the North. If you are coming from South of SR 619 and your destination is one of the businesses in the temporary closure area, please follow the detour (SR 619 to Fortuna Drive to Interstate Parkway) and then head South on Arlington. SR 619 and Arlington Road south of SR 619 will remain open. The detour for the construction will be Interstate Parkway to Fortuna Drive to East Turkeyfoot Lake Road. Please see our detour map for ways to navigate around the closure.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010
The contractor, Wenger Excavating, will be doing nightly road closures beginning Monday, May 3 through Friday, May 7 in order to complete sanitary sewer work.  Arlington Road south of SR 619 (East Turkeyfoot Lake Road) will close at 9:00 PM and re-open at 6:00 AM.  The road closure is necessary due to the large amount of traffic in the area.  While we understand this closure maybe inconvenient to some of the business located in the construction zone, it will limit the construction during daytime business hours and make it easier for your customers to reach your place of business.    The detour for the contraction will be East Turkeyfoot Lake Road, to Massillon Road to Boettler Road.  Please see the detour map for ways to navigate around the closure.

Friday, April 9, 2010
Construction will kick off officially on Monday, April 12, 2010. During the first phase of the project, workers will be focusing on improving the intersection at SR 619 and Arlington Road. Much of the work at the present time is anticipated to focus on installing water lines, sanitary laterals, sanitary sewer, storm sewers and constructing temporary pavement. Initially, the project limits will be September Drive to Liberty Green Drive along Arlington Road and from 767 to 900 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road.

Here are a few reminders:

  • Businesses and those traveling through the Arlington Road Construction Zone should expect delays. We ask for patience as we work through the new traffic pattern.
  • Expect to see lane restrictions and flaggers in the area.
  • Please check the City of Green Web site and the Ohio Department of Transportation's Buckeye Traffic site for the latest information regarding the construction. Visit the City of Green's Web site for links to the construction fact sheet, maps and temporary sign policy.
