9/11 Remembrance Ceremony & Patriot Day Concert

When: Sunday, September 11, 2011

The City of Green is hosting a 9/11 remembrance ceremony followed by a concert at the Green Veterans Memorial Park on Sunday, September 11 at 4 p.m. The short ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. with a moment of silence and remarks from City of Green Mayor Dick Norton, Summit County Sheriff Drew Alexander and Green's Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Groen. At 4:30 p.m., the NEO Jazz Orchestra will perform a variety of "Americana" music.

"Every one of us was affected in some way by the events of 9/11 and this is our way of remembering those who lost their lives as well as those who serve for our freedom," said Mike Elkins, superintendent of Parks and Recreation. "The Green Veterans Memorial Park was built to remember and celebrate the service and sacrifice of all veterans and first responders.  This event is a way to honor and thank all fire and police professionals for their service and their willingness to help and protect our country."

The family event is free to attend. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the concert. Parking is available behind Fire Station No. 1, the John Torok Community Center, Queen of Heaven Church and the Green Intermediate School.
